On Edge in 2013

So my new year has begun a little tense like my last year has been. There have definitely been some major upsides, but still something eludes me. I am still on the quest to improve my graphic design career.

Granted, me working at a sandwich shop for the past 5 years wasn’t really helping me. so last year I finally made a step to rectify that. I left. I found a job at a doctor’s office working the front desk and it is going pretty well. I love the hours, and the pay isn’t half bad. It leaves me time to still pursue what I want to, but at a fraction of the stress of my previous job. I am already being given more responsibility, and trained and trusted to do more, leaving room for growth.

However, I still do not want to cast my desire to be a designer to the side. It’s harder these days to find the motivation to create something new to add to my current portfolio. I have been working towards getting freelance clients, getting my name out there, I even made a Facebook page just to promote myself, yet am struggling to figure out what to update it with regularly. I am looking into entering more contests, but the feedback and community through that is only so so.

Things have been looking up though. I have been getting more calls for interviews in the past several months. So progress is being made. Slowly, but it is there. I feel some days like I am that turtle racing the rabbit, in that the rabbit is an alternate version of me that never went to college for design, stuck to education, and thinks he knows it all. I am glad to be the turtle though. I wouldn’t have the life I do have now, if for not being the turtle. So, even though I am not the happiest with the way my new year has begun, I am hopeful that my day to oust the rabbit and win the race is coming soon.

I know this sounds depressing, but it is actually a happy blog. Even though I didn’t start the year off the way I thought I would, I’m happy with where it is in respect to last year, and that hopefully by 2014, it will be even greater!

Been Tired As of Late...

Not sure what it is, but on Sunday as well as today, I have been so tired, I could barely move. (Goodness gracious! That was a LOT of comma’s) Theory being thrown around right now is that it could be due to the fact that I am working myself to exhaustion when I am at work, as well as, not getting proper sleep to form a very tired individual in myself. I am not too happy about it. I have been eating good, like I have been doing since the start of the year, but I definitely do think the problems sleeping may hinder me in some small way.

The problems I have had with sleeping to be more exact are this: I will go to bed around 12 (not horrible in any way) but will proceed to wake up 4-5 times between falling asleep and getting out of bed at 8. I know, doesn’t seem like a big deal (although I used to get out of bed at 7), but when it happens every night for weeks on end, it makes you wonder…

All I know for sure is, it needs to stop. I cannot focus on what I truly need to get done, because my head feels so heavy I have to lay down. The next big thing is out there for me, but how can I find it, if I feel so tired I cannot even look for it?
